A packed crowd gathered at the QFT last night to pay tribute to John T Davis, legendary documentary filmmaker from Holywood, County Down, at the screening of director Paul McParland’s tribute ‘John T Davis: His Own Trail.’

Davis, one of Ireland’s most internationally respected documentarians, established his reputation with films such as ‘Shellshock Rock,’ ‘Route 66,’ ‘Hobo’ and ‘The Uncle Jack.’

McParland’s film explores the director’s unique outlook on life and his talents as a musician. Interspersed throughout is footage of John travelling through America, traversing the landscape that inspires his dreams, fantasies and realities, as well as clips from a number of his films.

Beautifully lensed in black and white, McParland’s film was brilliantly received, and he paid tribute to John T Davis in an introduction which gave fulsome praise to the filmmakers influence and legacy.
