Andrea Arnold is one of the most exciting and acclaimed British filmmakers working today. We are delighted that she will be joining us and Lisa Barros D’Sa for this special in conversation event.
What a career Andrea Arnold has had to date!
In 2005 she won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for Wasp. In 2006, her first feature film, Red Road won the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival and the BAFTA Carl Foreman Award. Her second film,Fish Tankstarred Michael Fassbender and Katie Jarvis and won the Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It also won the 2010 BAFTA for Best British Film.
Her third film, Wuthering Heights, was an adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel and premiered in competition at the 2011 Venice Film Festival. Her fourth film,American Honey was shot in America with Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeou and won Arnold her third Jury Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2018/19 Andrea directed the second series of Big Little Lies
for HBO. Her most recent film and first feature length documentary, Cow
, premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.
Filmmakers and film lovers alike will not want to miss this. We are also honoured to have Andrea as a jury member for our inaugural International Film Competition.
Leading the conversation will be award-winning Irish filmmaker, Lisa Barros D’Sa. Working with her long-time collaborator Glenn Leyburn, she has recently completed a Netflix mini-series Damage (2022) and three feature films, her most recent being the critically acclaimed Ordinary Love(2019) starring Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville.
The format of this event will be a relaxed ‘in-conversation’ style with film clips to illustrate the discussion.
