Surely you can't be serious! The Ulster Aviation Society air hanger will play host to a special screening of the comedy classic ‘Airplane!’
Alcoholic pilot Ted Striker, who’s developed a fear of flying due to wartime trauma, boards a jumbo jet in an attempt to woo back his stewardess girlfriend. Food poisoning decimates the passengers and crew, leaving it up to Striker to land the plane, with the help of a glue-sniffing air traffic controller and Striker’s vengeful former captain, who must both talk him down.
The quintessential movie spoof that spawned an entire genre of parody films, the original Airplane! still holds up as one of the brightest comedic gems of the 1980s, not to mention of cinema itself (it often tops polls of the funniest movies ever made). There’s hardly a second that passes without an assault by a wickedly accurate spoof, cringe-inducing pun or inspired sight gag, and the years have not diminished the film’s dumb appeal.
The Ulster Aviation Society hangar is one of Northern Ireland’s best kept secrets and home to a unique array of historic aircraft and exhibits celebrating Northern Ireland’s aviation heritage.
