Angst

Directed by Gerald Kargl

Number One In UFO's KRAUTROCK 'N KILLERZ!! SEASON (OF ONE)

With the possible exceptions of Michael Fischa’s possessed health club masterwork, DEATH SPA (coincidentally showing as the next UFO presentation) and BBC light entertainment atrocity THE BLACK AND WHITE MINSTREL SHOW, the 20th Century’s greatest depiction of unfathomable evil must surely be Gerald Kargl’s unflinching surgical gaze into the mechanics of profound psychopathy, ANGST. Unforgettable viewing, not just for Erwin Leder’s jittering, wirey, dopamine imbalanced “murderer just out of prison and desperate for more” performance or from the out-of-body-experience inducing effects of Zbigniew Rybczyński’s otherwordly, pre-drone, pre-Aronofsky camerawork but also from the icy robotic distance of Klaus Schulze’s unrelenting drum machine metronome-of-menace soundtrack. Be prepared for a harrowing depiction of Human psychosis and a truly unhinging, hypno-cinema headspace.
(Sadly, no Dachshunds were harmed during the making of this film.)
