Classic stand-up artists with 4 of the greatest filmed stand up routines presented in the Black Box. Richard Pryor, Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock’s filmed concerts will be screened in the perfect environment for a stand up gig.
Chris Rock brings his critically acclaimed brand of social commentary-themed humor to this 1999 standup comedy presentation. On-stage Rock extolls his razor-sharp wit and wisdom on such topics as gun control, President Clinton, homophobia, racism, black leaders, and relationships
Despite his manic and profane delivery, Rock’s comedy is often rooted in traditional subjects for comedians: family relationships, misunderstandings between men and women, and observations on how childhood has changed. But he takes his material right to the edge, proving himself to be a sharp-eyed satirist. Serious and timely issues, such as school shootings or children being neglected by partying parents, are tackled by Rock, who’s not afraid to slip in a serious point while being hysterically funny.
This event is part of the BFI’s BLACK STAR season, taking place UK-wide, supported by Film Hub NI, part of the Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
