1981 Hungarian animated film directed by Marcell Jankovics. This psychedelic folk tale is a must-see for anyone interested in the art of animation.
The story, whilst perfectly enjoyable, is perfunctory with broad archetypal characters and a predictable plot, although it is surprisingly rich in symbolism. Yet people don’t watch Fehérlófia for its passable story, they watch it for its startling animation. As a visual experience it has no equal – it is a kaleidoscopic treat of luminous colour and shifting forms.
