The screening of Open Door - Residents of the Divis Flats and The British Connection - Shankill Road is part of our archive-based project High Rise Low Rise.
The British Connection – Shankill Road, BBC (1978), and This Week: The Price of Peace – Divis, Thames TV (1974).
These documentaries explore life within Belfast during the 1970s. Whilst the geography and the housing in these areas are initially explored, many relevant issues from the time are inextricably linked, other than the obvious political ones – public health, safety, childcare, women’s rights and others are highlighted.
The film will be followed by a conversation with Professor Paddy Gray (Ulster University; @PaddyGray1), Janet Hunter (Housing Rights; @HousingRightsNI), and Dessie Donnolly (Participation and the Practice of Rights; @PPR_Org). It will be chaired by Fearghal Murray (MMAS Architects; @Fearghal_Murray)
This project is supported by the BFI Film Audience Network as part of Changing Times: Shifting Ground.
