Kasper Collin directs a poignant and revealing documentary about free jazz legend Albert Ayler.

Using rare photographs and insightful testimony the film follows a troubled life of artistic expression and obsession. My Name Is Albert Ayler takes its title from Ayler’s 1963 debut album of the same name, and showcases much of the saxophone player’s evolving style and influence. This film is very rarely shown and movingly depicts events in the musician’s life such as John Coltrane’s funeral, at which Ayler performed.
This film is part of a series for Moving on Music’s Brilliant Corners Jazz Festival, now in its fifth edition.
