Banned in the country in which it was shot due to its depiction of government-backed dam projects, The Rocket is the first internationally released feature film set in Laos.

Ahlo, a 10 year-old boy who is believed to bring bad luck leads his newly displaced family (and a couple of ragged misfits) on a calamity-filled journey through a lush land scarred by the legacy of war. To prove that he is not cursed he builds a giant rocket to enter the most exciting and dangerous competition of the year: the Rocket Festival.
