One of the longest-running horror film series began with this gory shocker from director Sean S. Cunningham, who had previously produced Wes Craven’s classic ‘Last House on the Left’. A group of fun-loving teenagers take jobs at a recently re-opened summer camp, unaware of the circumstances that had led to its closure: the drowning of a young boy named Jason and subsequent murder of two counsellors over twenty years before. No sooner has the camp re-opened for business than the killing begins again, as the teens are picked off one by one.

Sean Sexton Cunningham (born December 1, 1941) is an American film director, producer, and writer. Cunningham is known for creating the Friday the 13th franchise. Out of the 12 films in the series, the ones that had Sean’s involvement were Friday the 13th, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason, and the 2009 reboot. He is the founder and CEO of Crystal Lake Entertainment, which was named after the storied lake in the films.

What they said

..perhaps more than any other film, it helped to popularize the slasher genre and codify the formula.
Long before Jason, and the endless machinations of dumb sequels, Friday the 13th represented the purest form of terror.
