How to Divorce During the War

One of two films in this year’s programme set at the advent of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, this film takes a warm and well-measured look at one family’s everyday problems during an exceptional time in European history.

Set in Vilnius in 2022, married couple Marija and Vytas decide to divorce. The next day, Russia invades Ukraine, and Lithuania is suddenly in the throes of an international crisis. With a daughter asking questions and Ukrainian refugees to take care of, how will they navigate their ‘new normal’? This funny and moving slice of real life is a fantastic Irish co-production, and is Lithuania’s entry for the 2027 Oscars.
