Last night the Movie House, Dublin Road was alive with former residents of ‘the Flats’.  A packed to capacity audience was treated to an introduction by the Canadian director and the star of the show who both flew in to present the documentary Alive From Divis Flats as part of the annual Homecoming and Belfast One City event.

“… the neighbourhood that was so tough Barry McGuigan was the Avon Lady!” got the reminiscing and comedy treatment during the introduction and wonderfully engaging post-screening discussion.  The subject of the documentary is Hugo Straney, a stand up comedian and radio presenter, originally from Divis Flats now based in Canada.  He and the film’s director Eleanor McGrath where both thrilled to be presenting the film in the City.

The documentary was introduced by MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir.  New York based actress, Geraldine Hughes, a former resident of the infamous flats hosted the Q&A and post-screening discussion.

Michael McAdam (Movie House) sponsored the screening in partnership with Belfast Film Festival.
