As part of the 18th Belfast Film Festival Cinepunked held an event called Art vs Artist to discuss the recent public engagement with the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations.

Cinepunked’s resident hosts Robert JE Simpson and Dr Rachael Kelly led an interactive panel discussion navigating the ethics of film watching in a post-Weinstein era. Can we separate art from artist? How is the cinema gaze being redirected? Is it okay to watch a film when the makers have been convicted of a criminal activity?

Dr Racheal Kelly spoke to Dave Fanning on The Ryan Tubridy show on Monday 7th May to discuss some of the arguments raised during this event and whether or not art can be viewed separately from the actions of those who make it, after the news that comedian Bill Cosby and filmmaker Roman Polanski have been expelled from The Academy.
