Tonight Terence Davies introduced a screening of his semi-autobiographical diptych Distant Voices, Still Lives.
This beautifully constructed, yet often unsettling, depiction of life in Liverpool in the mid-20th century centres on Davies’ own family. A unique twist on autobiography, he removes himself from the story so that the audience comes to understand him by way of understanding the context he came from: a working-class family in Liverpool.
